As Associate Vice Provost for Recruitment and Engagement in the Office of the Vice Provost – Faculty and Staff Affairs, Dr. Torsheika Maddox provides strategic leadership for programs and initiatives that support faculty and academic staff recruitment, onboarding, engagement, development, belonging, and retention at UW–Madison.

Dr. Maddox advises and collaborates with the Vice Provost, schools, colleges, divisions, shared governance leaders, the Office of Human Resources, and other campus partners to align services with institutional needs and strengthen UW–Madison’s ability to recruit, support, and retain world-class faculty and academic staff. Her portfolio includes dual career services, search and evaluation-related workshops, onboarding supports, engagement and belonging initiatives, and inclusive retention strategies.

She leads assessment and continuous improvement efforts, uses data and stakeholder feedback to guide recommendations, and supports evidence-based training and resources that enhance fairness in faculty and staff searches, promotion and tenure processes, and workplace decision-making.

Biography

Dr. Maddox brings two decades of experience at UW–Madison in equity, operations, organizational strategy, recruitment, retention, belonging, and institutional transformation. Across her career, she has led initiatives that strengthen institutional excellence, advance inclusive leadership, and connect campus priorities with practical strategies for organizational change.

Before serving as Associate Vice Provost for Recruitment and Engagement, Dr. Maddox held leadership roles focused on equity, inclusion, operations, and community partnership. Her work includes developing inclusive excellence assessment models, leading organizational transformation efforts, and advancing strategies that help institutions align values, culture, and action. Dr. Maddox’s work is deeply informed by her commitment to building communities and workplaces where people can thrive.
