Areas of Responsibility
As dean and vice provost of University Libraries, Heyns oversees campus libraries and provides leadership for strategic planning and policy directions; advancement and fundraising; coordination of campus library collections, services and personnel; and campus partnerships, collaborations and initiatives. The dean and vice provost of University Libraries oversees efforts to develop and enhance access to relevant, distinct and compelling content and collections, and cultivates and engages in campus, regional, national and international partnerships that facilitate scholarship and support the mission of the university and the library.
Biography
Erla Heyns received a doctoral and master’s degree from the School of Library and Information Science at Indiana University, a master’s degree in advanced clinical practice from Syracuse University, and a bachelor’s degree in history and Afrikaans/Dutch literature from the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa. Heyns led teaching and learning work for Purdue Libraries, focusing on campus engagement, collaborating with associate deans and other leaders involved in student success. She has worked with librarians and staff to develop new ways to integrate the work of librarians with academic departments and has taught undergraduate and graduate courses on mentoring at Purdue and mentoring workshops nationally.
