Laurie Beth Clark (B.A. Hampshire College, M.A. New Mexico, M.F.A., Rutgers) uses video and performance as well as sculptural components to construct topical installations. Her work is large scale and site specific and often incorporates the participation of community members. She teaches classes in Non-Static Forms, including video, performance, and installation. She offers graduate seminars on changing topics in contemporary critical theory and orchestrates interdisciplinary critiques. She is well known for making the classroom an active and collaborative learning environment where diverse cultural contexts are considered.

In her role as Vice Provost for Faculty and Staff Programs, she is responsible for the university's strategic and cluster hiring programs, support programs such as the university's dual career couple initiative, and leadership and professional development. One of her primary goals is to build a sense of intellectual community among faculty and staff. A strength that will help her in this endeavor is her willingness to solicit opinions from many constituencies and formulate practical solutions to realize shared goals.

Professor Clark joined the faculty at UW-Madison in 1985, serving as interim associate dean in the School of Education (1998) and department chair (1998-2001). She has coordinated the Visual Culture cluster hiring proposal and events, chairing the cluster's search committees in 2001 and 2002. In 2002, she received the Doris Slesinger award for Excellence in Mentoring.
