TEL Projects for 2008-09

Lead Unit Summary Collaborating Units Contact
Engineering Engineering and Education are collaborating on eCow 2.0, a course management system that allows lecture material to be off-loaded onto the web. It will allow students to interact with this material in ways to enhance their lecture preparation, allowing instructors to introduce interactive activities during lecture time. They wiull also work across campus to try the system out with other STEM courses. School of Education Greg Moses
Veterinary Medicine In a two-part project, SOHE and SVM are collaborating to create a "repository of learning objects" (LOs)—a database that makes it easy for instructors to find and use course material that others have created (digitized source material, demonstrations, etc.). In this first part, the focus will be on creating new LOs that are inherently interdisciplinary, namely activities and materials that involve both humans and plants/animals (about water run-off, landfills, ecosystems, etc.). School of Human Ecology, Nelson Institute Jeannette McDonald
School of Human Ecology In the second part of this project, SOHE and SVM are generating infrastructure for the LO repository, as well as training and marketing modules to help wide range of instructors make good use of the repository. School of Veterinary Medicine Wendy Way
Biology 151/152 CALS and Bio 151/152 are collaborating to create an automated system of "low stakes" and "higher order" quizzes that will both help students find each other for study groups and also personalize the interaction and feedback in these large intro courses. CALS Robert Jeanne
School of Medicine These three schools are collaborating to develop "virtual patient" case studies that allow students from all three schools practice working together on cases that need the input of doctors, nurses and pharmacists. Pedagogical strategies and materials will be developed along with the technological materials. School of Nursing, School of Pharmacy Mike Pitterle
Provost Office A pilot "ePortfolio" will be developed to help students capture and reflect on their Wisconsin Experiences. College of Letters & Sciences, Division of International Studies Aaron Brower
